New Year Habits for 2024

Happy New Year! I won’t bore you with listing a recap of my entire year. What I will say is 2023 became an unforgettable year, but in a very good way.

It went by so fast, but along the way I enjoyed the delicious food & wine, great conversations, creating memories with wonderful people in my life, celebrated with friends, traveled, listened and danced to amazing music, and spent the precious moments with people I care about. We only have one life and it’s really about staying present in the moment. Not every year will be perfect, but this was definitely a year for the books!

As we reflect on the previous year, this is a good time to figure out what we want to get most out of the near year. It’s a moment to renew and refresh our minds. A time to set our goals, dreams, affirmations, or daily habits that we want to tackle.

I was recently asked what my resolutions are for the New Year. Many moons ago, I’d have a large and almost unachievable list, but now I really want to make 2024 different. Something more achievable, but yet with meaning.

I decided to create a list of New Year Habits for 2024 that I’d like to not only achieve, but incorporate on the daily basis (as much as I can that is). I didn’t want to necessarily set up something that I’d achieve once and then forget about it later. It’s mostly establishing something that would permanently stay in my life and make it a habit that would bring me closer to a healthier version of me.

New Year Habits of 2024

  • Read 1 book a month (I beat my 2023 goal by reading 20 books in a year!)
  • Sleep earlier = wake up earlier (I’ve been sleeping way too late aka 1am sometimes and I need to get in the habit of disconnecting sooner so that I can enjoy the morning a bit more)
  • Create a consistent fitness routine (I need to strengthen my inner core, otherwise workouts would feel difficult if I took longer breaks)
  • Stand and move more (the downfall from WFH or in the office is the constant sitting. It’s not good for ones health overall and movement is important)
  • Walk daily (this stems from the point above. I’d like to split up my lunch hour by eating for 30 minutes and then going on a walk for 30 minutes)
  • Drink more water! (One glass a day isn’t enough and I need to increase my intake)
  • Take my daily vitamins (I dropped the ball on this a few times and my body feels the difference when I don’t take my vitamins)
  • Schedule my content creation more wisely (I’d easily find myself getting burnt out or unmotivated when I felt stressed or pressured. Finding a smarter method of writing my blog posts will allow me to stay more consistent)
  • Dance (I listen to music almost on the daily, but haven’t really danced much which is something I always loved doing and releases a lot of stress)
  • Journal (I like the notion of waking up with gratitude and sleeping with gratitude no matter how the rest of my day went. A good way to reflect on the good stuff, especially when I’ve had a bad day)
  • Reduce my screen time (a good way to wind down by reading a few chapters before bedtime, otherwise I’d be flipping through Instagram until 1am!)
  • Give myself grace (super important during the moments I don’t feel good or feel unmotivated)
  • No phone at the dinner table (I’d like to continue doing this as it helped me to stay in the present moment and focus on the people I care about)
  • Do one thing that I love (this can be anything and even if it’s for a few minutes, it’s important to remind myself of the things that make me happy)

Create a list of habits that you’d like to incorporate within this new year and carry with you for a while. If you have such a list, share with me as I’d love to know more and discover other habits that I too can incorporate into my life. Thank you for sticking around and I cannot wait to share additional content with you throughout 2024!
